People can hear you…

Ian and I took a walk to the store after nap today. (Okay, I walked, he rode.) Most notable features of today’s walk were the altercation between two motorists (they taught Ian a new word… “F***er!” Then Mommy said, “Ian, you didn’t hear that. She’s right, but you didn’t hear it.”) and the unusual number of serious cyclists we saw today. Lots of them were sporting logos from their sponsors… either they are just enjoying the nice weather like us, or there’s an event on the horizon and they’re training.

Also, Ian just found out that his stroller seat RECLINES, which he thinks is fabulous.

Sugarloaf Mountain Natural Area

Sugarloaf Mountain is 52.1 miles (just over halfway!) from my starting point.

Welcome to Stronghold on Sugarloaf Mountain

Stronghold, Incorporated is a non-profit corporation, organized in 1946 by the late Gordon Strong. It owns and operates the mountain property for the public’s “enjoyment and education in an appreciation of natural beauty.”

Sugarloaf Mountain has been designated a Registered Natural Landmark because of its geological interest and striking beauty. Stronghold agreed to maintain its natural state, and your help in this regard will be a most welcome contribution.

Funds for maintenance and improvement do not come from federal, state, or municipal sources. They come from a modest trust fund, from membership dues, and from gifts and bequests of folks like you, who are interested in preserving this priceless heritage.

We wish you a pleasant stay and venture the thought that as you stand and look out upon the lovely Monocacy Valley and the mountains beyond, you will experience a moral and spiritual uplift. Gordon Strong believed that “… those who appreciate natural beauty will be better people, people who treat each other better.”

We love ya, babe!

Yes, this is one of those infamous weekends when Daddy is away. Ian received this photo from his father and insists it is a picture of Daddy, “in Ohio, comin’ home.”

I guess whatever else we’ve taught him, we’ve managed the most important thing. He knows his family always comes home.

Please don’t forget to help other moms and dads like us bring THEIR family home healthy from birth. We are within $200 of our goal, so your help will mean a lot!

Seneca Creek State Park (mile 36)

Seneca Creek State Park is 36.8 miles from my starting point. From the website:

The park, comprised of 6,300 acres, extends along 14 scenic miles of Seneca Creek, as it winds its way to the Potomac River. The Clopper Day-Use Area contains many scenic areas, including the 90-acre Clopper Lake, surrounded by forests and fields. Picnicking, boat rentals, trails and a tire playground are just some of its recreational opportunities. A restored 19th century cabin and a self-guided path interpret the history of the area. Nearby, the Schaeffer Farm Trail Area offers 12 miles of marked trails for hiking and mountain biking. For the more adventuresome hiker, the 16.5-mile Seneca Creek Greenway Trail follows the entire course of the river. During May, the Schwartz peony gardens and field plants are in bloom. “
