Whither shall we we wander?

We set out early, with the goal of logging as many miles as we could while Ian was at school, and got home just before it started to rain. We took one short break so my sidekick could play for a while, but mostly we just tore up that trail!

And, of course, there was the obligatory comment on the fact that Keeghan was wearing mismatched socks. I’m thinking of telling people he’s got mismatched feet. (Seriously, you see dimples like these, and it’s his SOCKS that get your attention? Must be impervious to cuteness.)

Total miles: 5.91

The Littlest Blues Man

Groovy Nate has been doing a John Lee Hooker number as part of his set lately. Today Keeghan sang along- “BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!”

And it turns out that falafel, French fries, and hummus ARE TOO baby food. So there. The celery wasn’t as easy, but he made a valiant effort.

Oh yeah…

Remember when I mentioned we should Prepare for Upheaval? Well, we did not have a rerun of New Year’s Eve. In fact, we’ve been enjoying this for a while now:

It’s not actually wood. It’s vinyl, and I gotcha there for a minute, didn’t I?

Let’s Roll!

Keeghan’s all ready for the March. (two days after his birthday. Or, a mere 6 weeks from now, if you’ve lost track.)

And he has a new favorite finger food- barley cooked with fruit- and a new word- “see.” They really do grow up in the blink of an eye…

Rise and shine… And shiver

Apparently, despite recent 80 degree temps, it got cold last night. Since it seems our furnace is already on vacation, that means it’s more or less 50 degrees in here.

And THAT means the inhabitants huddled together for warmth.

So I got to witness the wake up process for my kids. You know what? There’s no process. At 6:50, the two of them opened their eyes and got up like a gong went off.

So I have a theory: ultra-high frequency wake up call parents can’t hear.

Sick Day

The icky stomach bug finally came to our house. But the afflicted has worked his way up from Popsicles to saltines to soup.

I made him what my Grandmommy used to call “Egg Drop Soup.” (Leading me to order Egg Drop Soup in a Chinese restaurant and also to my subsequent bitter dismay.) You make Lipton noodle soup, and stir in a beaten egg at the end. Very soothing.

He’s having lime jello for dessert, and perking up nicely, like thirsty plants after rain. Which is good, because Ian being pitiful is about the saddest thing I’ve seen.

Fingers crossed the rest of us don’t get it…
