Making up for lost time

I nipped out for a solo walk at naptime today and scoped out the flower situation. (Okay, I checked on the construction equipment situation on behalf of the little dude, too…)

I’m pleased to report that now that spring has finally decided to arrive, not only has the snow melted, but spring is popping out with a vengeance. You probably remember that just day before yesterday I reported the first crocus. We’re working on a bumper crop, and a yard that was completely bare when I wrote that post is now green with daff foliage… look for a photo when the flowers come out, it should be spectacular.

Solo Miles today: 1.3

After nap, we headed out to the park.

Hiking the Burke Lake Trail

Today is an unbelievably beautiful day, so after I dropped Ian off for Preschool with his friends, I headed over to Burke Lake Park and took a solo hike around the lake trail. Saw lots of folks out- runners, bikers, dog walkers, people pushing their babies in strollers, people pushing their dogs in strollers… (no I’m not making that up, and yes, it was adorable.)

The big heron who likes to hang out on the banks of the shallow area wasn’t out today, but I did see some Canada Geese, a few ducks, some gulls, and heard but didn’t see several woodpeckers. (Or just one who was industriously flying ahead of me at intervals… dunno.)

Distance traveled: 4.5 miles

Current Total Distance Traveled: 11.54 miles

I owe the babies: $2.89

Spring

Everyone at my house was napping, so I nipped out for a quick walk, solo for a change. I saw all sorts of folks out. Never has the neighborhood seen quite so much outdoor play, yardwork, and garage cleanout in a single Sunday afternoon!

Note that he put his own boots on.

Also, he was quite insistent that Green Eggs and Ham ride in the passenger compartment, not the basket underneath.

Excuse me, Pillow!
BIRDS! Here are goldfish.
