Not a boggart!

Well, it turns out that that thing rattling my insides was indeed a baby, and not a boggart at all.  Ian seems to have a definite opinion about everything.  (It’s like he’s my son, or something.)  When frustrated, he lets out a piercing shriek to inform the world that it must bend to his will before resuming his concentrated efforts at achievement.  He makes the most thoughtful faces and has a habit of raising one index finger as though trying to get everyone’s attention for pronouncements of great import.  He and I spent our time in the hospital reading Harry Potter, which hopefully balanced out his father reading to him about the rape and plunder committed by the conquering Roman army as commanded by Ceasar.  He’s had a busy four days, what can I say.

My mother has stated that it is her unbiased opinion that, although there were a lot of babies at that hospital, ours is really the best one.  Thanks to everyone for all your best wishes.  We are excited to be home and I really am feeling very well, all things considered.

still in there!

I have had many calls and emails asking if we’ve had a baby yet, since Ian was due on the 16th, so this is just a short note to let you all know that he is still in there, to our (and our doctor’s) surprise and dismay.  He and I are both still doing very well, although I am running out of clothes that fit… good thing I can sew, as I refuse to buy anything at this stage of the game!

If he doesn’t make an appearance on his own, I’ll be induced on Monday, so look for news from us next week.

thanks to all of you for your love and support!

An update

Yesterday I witnessed a Pileated woodpecker attacking the side view mirror of the neighbor’s car while it was parked in the driveway.  If you’ve never seen a Pileated woodpecker, they are pretty big birds, and this one was trotting out every ounce of male impressiveness he could muster.  Apparently he had mistaken his own reflection for competition, and he pecked that car mirror to within an inch of its life for nearly twenty minutes.  I couldn’t decide whether there was any point in trying to rescue the car from him, or him from himself, and so let him have at it until he decided to dig the bugs out of our woodpile instead.

Our neighborhood has quite a few kids, and we are starting to know more of the neighbors a little bit as a result of our daily walks- something Michael actually has time for, now that he doesn’t commute so far to work.

We are obviously anticipating baby Ian’s arrival more and more every day- the doctors tell us that he has “assumed the position” and is ready to go… they also tell us that he is “an active little booger” (we knew that already- I’ve been asking whether he’s really a baby, or a trapped Boggart), that all indications are that he is in “impeccable” health, and, although they haven’t mentioned it, we also know that he is incredibly good looking, smart, and well behaved.  Michael is picking out law schools… 😀  In short, we are allowing ourselves to be giddy, ridiculous, expectant parents while we still get a good sleep every night.

News from the new place

Hello to everyone from sunny and beautiful Alexandria, VA!  Thanks to a lot of help from my wonderful family, we are finally getting settled in our new home.

Michael is in the middle of painting the baby’s room (bright green), I am sorting and organizing our things and going for my daily waddle around the neighborhood, and our daffodils are out and our azaleas will be with us soon.  The forsythia led the charge and came out first.

Our yard backs onto the panhandle of a nature preserve, so the night my brother Tyler helped us unload our shipping container, a couple of deer were hanging out in the neighbor’s front yard.  His dog, Nico, was terribly offended, but didn’t chase them after being told not to.  (What a dog!)  She has nicely decided that as we don’t have a dog ourselves, she will defend our territory from other dogs and the local wildlife when she visits.  She is doing a fabulous job.  Our cats hate her guts.

My new OB is wonderful and everything continues to be boringly normal with the pregnancy so far.  We still expect baby Ian’s arrival on or around the 16th of June.

The neighborhood is delightful, and our next door neighbors have a little one year old boy and are expecting a baby in August.  They moved here six months ago from Ohio, so we look forward to getting to know them.  We haven’t met the folks across the street, but they have a red Miata… so we look forward to knowing them too.

Michael is enjoying the challenges of his new job and likes his coworkers so far.  Time will tell, as it does with all things, but so far the job is a very good fit for him, and he LOVES his short commute!

It’s a boy!

We got a nice peek at our SON Michael Ian McNamara yesterday… here he is!  We’re at 19 weeks and the radiologist said to “keep up the good work!”

He has all his parts and is very active.  He has gotten strong enough to wake me up with his movements.  Michael says he still can’t feel him yet, but it will be soon.

My grandmother kind of wanted a girl- she said my next one “has” to be a girl!
