Now, in a Utopia Near You…
The grownups say things like, “Be a good listener!” and then the kids say, “Okay, Daddy, I will! I love you!” and everyone gets a hug and a kiss.
The mommy can’t push the wheelbarrow because she’s holding the baby right now, which in Utopia doesn’t lead to a bunch of whining about WANTING Mommy to push the wheelbarrow. It leads to the child saying, “Okay, I will go play with my sister. Let’s call Grandma and Grandpa.”
I could happily live in this dollhouse. Too bad that would be a horror movie scene akin to watching Godzilla demolish the Utopian Way of Life.
38 Weeks: Happy Anniversary
Today we celebrate six beautiful years and the end of week 38. My thoughtful neighbor snapped this shot for us.
Oh, you want the rest of the weekly update? The doctor says: My BP and baby’s heart rate are still excellent. Sugars are still good on medication. I now weigh 201 lbs and we have no reason to think, false alarm notwithstanding, that I won’t now go to May 10 as originally planned. Oh, and she also said she has never seen a patient have contractions as long as I did without having a baby. I’m just extra lucky, I guess!
Mommy, do Octopuses really only have one eye?
Ian’s deep sea fishing puzzle started us on a voyage through wikipedia today to find out how many eyes an octopus has, where sea turtles sleep, how jellyfish eat, and why it’s called a “sea horse.” Also what “pelagic waters” are, which was news to me… or something I’d completely forgotten from long ago.
Garden Progress
Here’s a little treasure I picked up from the dollar bin at Target:
We had a little fun Mommy-Son moment planting exactly five seeds in each pot this morning. (He also counted out each of the 3 Tablespoons of water you’re to add to each pot.) We’ll see if they survive past the instruction to “transplant when plants are 3″ tall…” You may or may not remember that “transplant” usually means “it all goes wrong” around here.
Here’s the rest of Ian’s little garden:
The Easter Bunny Came
…and when Ian got to the bottom of his Easter Bucket he said, “But, where’s all the candy?” We explained that the EB brought candy to church, which he’ll be able to collect in his bucket. He then asked if ALL his friends got buckets from the Easter Bunny, and if they were all their favorite colors. (Mister is a big fan of green. I’m told he played Candy Land yesterday and would only move if he drew a green card.)
FYI, the modern day paint with water is WAY cooler than the ones we had when we were kids, because you can pick what color to paint your picture. Notice that Mister went directly to “green.”
Bonus
and here is a really lovely photo of me and a small boy who volunteered to participate in the “picture day” project:
which is extra wonderful because here’s what I got of me and my OWN small boy:
Son: Love you, love you, love you, LOVE YOU. And someday I will blackmail you with this picture. Because it’s AWESOME.
37 weeks
Here’s what you get when Mister really would rather do something other than “pose” with Mommy. AKA, “NO, Mommy, I do not want a picture of that.”
Notice my very elegant footwear. I have had to borrow some larger shoes to get me through the last couple weeks. Grandma Gray told me she used to wear Grandpa’s shoes while she was pregnant. How in the world she suffered through this five times I do not know, but I suppose she felt the same way I do… it’s all worth it when they hand you the baby.
The doctor is still pleased with how baby and I are doing- I’m at 200lbs on the nose in case you’re keeping track, my blood pressure is excellent, my sugars continue to be stable on meds, and the fetus passed his first Non Stress Test (or “NST” to those in the know) with flying colors. Ian used to kick the sensors during his, but this guy prefers rolling off one or both sensors so the obnoxious alarm goes off and brings the nurse running. Fun times!
We’re getting the baby clothes all washed and folded… and I keep looking at the outfit Ian came home in and thinking it is totally impossible (although true) that it was ever TOO BIG for him.
