Doing the “do.”

One of Ian’s many “things,” and unfortunately one of the hardest to humor, is a dislike for getting his head wet/having his hair washed. I try to give him as much control over the process as I can without actually giving up on hygiene. So please understand how HUGE it is when I say… He let the stylist wash his hair. And, because everyone should go to this salon, the employees all applauded him.

Plus, I love my hair.

And certain people made themselves very popular by flirting with everyone. Hands off the fuzzy baby head, ladies…

In which I win… Kind of.

Ian would not believe that these aren’t “just like” Oreos. (yes, things like this are why moms shop alone.) Too tired to argue, I agreed to buy them, but cautioned him that they weren’t what he was expecting.

Apparently I was quite right, to the surprise if NEARLY no one. I’m told that he took one bite, went to the trash can, and spit it out. I tried them and they are quite good, but not a bit like Oreos. So I am now the proud owner of a box of cookies no one but me will eat. Sadly, I WILL. I think we can file this under “moral victory.”

Rain, rain, go away…

A chilly drizzle day meant we had to stay indoors… No problem, Keeghan will just spend a little time with his favorite puzzle.

Ian was perfectly able to occupy himself, too.

His father asked him why he’d spent the afternoon systematically trashing his room. He replied, “it’s just what I do.”

Overheard

Michael: It’s time to go in.

Ian: But I want one more minute!

Michael: You’ve had one more minute. I’ll tell you what. If you can tell me what 4+3 is, I’ll give you that many more minutes.

Ian: SEVEN.

In other news, this child has managed to make his preschool teachers doubt he can identify basic shapes or count higher than 12.

Time to upgrade security

We’ve been using a temporary gate to keep Keeghan from enjoying such delightful pastimes as pillaging the bottom of the china cabinet and licking the bathroom floor.

Remember this?

Yesterday he decided it was worth defeating the gate. So he did. He slid the pack and play out from the wall and pulled the other end out from behind the cabinet. Then he checked to make sure he’d defeated it and crowed over its demise.

Then he turned around to go and do this:

Because all of that was about winning. He didn’t actually want to leave.
